Unleash the Hydration: The iuno Protocol's Deep Treatment for Thirsty Skin

Case study: Glyceryl Glucoside

One of iuno's ingredients for deep moisturizing is Glyceryl Glucoside which is a natural combination of glycerol and glucose and is becoming the new molecule for next generation moisturizing ingredients.. It is naturally present in red, rosé and white wine, as well as in Japanese food brewed with koji, like sake, miso and mirin (1). Recently, many scientific reports suggested the key role of glyceryl glucoside in induction of aquaporin-3 protein (2), which is an essential protein in water molecule transport across the skin cell membrane. Glyceryl glucosides are mentioned for increasing skin elasticity, moisturizing, the reduction of symptoms like itching, burning, tightness, tingling, and feeling of dryness (3).

Glycerol and glucose are two important components of the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) found in the stratum corneum (outermost layer) of the skin. Glycerol has been shown to increase the expression and activity of aquaporin 3 (AQP3), a water channel protein that is involved in skin hydration and barrier function.

Aquaporins are membrane proteins that transport water and other small molecules across the cell membrane. AQP3 is primarily found in the basolateral membrane of epidermal keratinocytes, where it plays an important role in skin hydration by facilitating the movement of water from the dermis to the epidermis.

Glycerol, when combined with glucose to form glyceryl glucoside, has been shown to increase the expression and activity of AQP3 in the skin. This can help to improve skin hydration by increasing the movement of water from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface, and also strengthen the skin barrier function.

In summary, glyceride glucoside helps with aquaporin 3 in the skin by increasing its expression and activity, which can improve skin hydration and barrier function.

Atomization or Manual Application: Decoding the Best Way to Apply Your Skincare

When applied manually, the glyceryl glucoside containing product is typically spread over the skin using fingers or a brush. This method can be effective at delivering the product to the surface of the skin, but may not penetrate deeply enough to reach the lower layers where hydration is most needed. Additionally, using too much pressure or rubbing too vigorously can potentially damage the skin.

On the other hand, when applied with an atomizer, the glyceryl glucoside containing product is delivered as a fine mist that can penetrate deeply into the skin, reaching the lower layers where hydration is most needed. The mist can also help to evenly distribute the product over the skin, avoiding the potential for over-application or uneven coverage. The use of an atomizer is also more gentle on the skin, as there is less potential for rubbing or pressure that can cause damage.

Overall, using an atomizer to apply glyceryl glucoside helps to increase the effectiveness of the product by delivering it more deeply into the skin while also being gentler on the skin.

Clinical Studies:
The moisturization and barrier‐strengthening benefits of moisturizing formulations containing glyceryl glucoside, urea and other components of the Natural Moisturizing Factor have also been successfully investigated (3).
